Established to meet the needs of the homeless community in Decatur.
God's Shelter of Love began when a group of Christians in Decatur saw the need for emergency shelter for homeless families. The first meeting took place in April of 1990, and in the following months a board of directors was formed and began to meet monthly. On November 4, 1991, the board was able to rent two houses on E. Marietta Street and God's Shelter of Love opened its doors and began serving the homeless. The Lord continued to bless the ministry, and in April of 1993, the board was able to purchase property at 929 North Union Street.
Today God's Shelter of Love maintains residential properties to provide emergency shelter for homeless women and children in addition to a retail thrift store, Blessingdales. We continue to serve the needs of homeless women and children and provides much-needed outreach in Decatur's Old King's Orchard neighborhood.
